This past week at the 2025 Alabama League of Municipalities Convention in Huntsville was nothing short of inspiring. As we gathered to celebrate ALM’s 90th anniversary, the energy and commitment to our communities were palpable.

Governor Kay Ivey set a resolute tone, emphasizing public safety as her top priority for the 2025 legislative session. Her dedication to enhancing safety measures resonates deeply with our own goals for Margaret.

We also had the privilege of hearing from Clarence E. Anthony, CEO of the National League of Cities. His insights into the challenges and opportunities facing municipalities nationwide provided valuable perspectives that we can bring back to our own city.

Key topics like cybersecurity and Parks & Recreation were at the forefront of discussions—areas that are equally vital to the future of Margaret. The emphasis on these subjects underscored the importance of proactive planning and investment in our city’s infrastructure and community services.

We began the week embracing “Kind Vibes,” fostering a spirit of collaboration and positivity. It was fitting to conclude by celebrating Rusty Jessup’s appointment as the new Vice President of ALM for 2026—a testament to dedicated leadership and service.

As we move forward, let’s carry the knowledge and inspiration gained from this convention to continue building a stronger, safer, and more vibrant Margaret.
