Last time I shared, we talked about how a Town Center could spark local business and create a heart for our community.
Today, I want to share the next piece of the vision: a Civic District-anchored by two things Margaret desperately needs:
A grocery store
A civic and community center
This isn’t rumor or wishful thinking. In 2021, a professional study showed that Margaret is viable for a full-size grocery store, with an estimated $85,000 in weekly sales. That means it’s not a matter of if, it’s a matter of when. And when that cornerstone is in place, other commercial opportunities will follow.
The civic center concept is about more than bricks and mortar; it’s about creating a place where we can gather, host events, and finally have a central space for our growing community. Leaders like Martrece Bell bring a vision for this center to not only provide services, but to give residents a place to call home. Her expertise-along with insight from others I’ve spoken with over the last few months-will help us strengthen our community and deliver the services our residents have been asking for.
This civic center could include:
A library
A senior center
Space for support groups and community services
A rec room
A basketball court
A stage for performances and events
I’m not making promises or writing checks the city can’t cash. I’m laying out a vision we can work toward-step by step, through planning, partnerships, and smart investment.
Margaret deserves more than scattered growth. We deserve a future built with intention.
Here’s the next chapter in that vision: the Civic District.
